(Upgrade option for 5U4G / 6X5 / 5AR4 / 83...etc, 6X4 and other rectifiers requires optional adapter cable) This is two identical STR-104-Mk2 (or Mk2-Super) built into one single chassis. For someone who has two separate rectifier tubes want to upgrade either for mono blocks, dual mono power supply, preamp + DAC, preamp + buffer.....etc. This is one of the best options for super up-grade of any preamp, power amp, buffer and DAC with tube rectifiers.Just simply remove the original rectifier tube and plug in this super rectifier (via the adapter cable), you will immediate boost the dynamics, depth/height/width of the sound stage, more natural in tonal quality and much better instrumental and vocal separations, the degree of improvement from 30-200% depend on which model you choose. You can also use a lot of different tubes for tonal quality fine-tuning. You can run either single tube or double tubes in this self-powered version. 2.5V/5V filament settings available for STR-104 , and 5V/10V for STR-1001, STR-1002, STR-1003 and STR-1004. I am very impressed by the improvement it brings to my 300B-based headphone amplifier. It is hard for me to quantify the percentage improvement, but the improvement I hear is all round and significant.
The 1002 replaces the 5AR4 rectifier tube used in the circuit. I have been using my much treasured NOS Phillips / Miniwatt metal base 5AR4, and I really thought its performance couldn't be bettered. How wrong I was! I have compared carefully, by switching the 5AR4 and STR-1002 back and forth. Your STR-1002 with 872A tubes is a complete revelation. The stunning midrange, thunderous bass and crystalline highs are all something to die for. There is so much detail and air in the music; every time I listen to a recording, I simply forget that I am listening to or through some gear, but rather listening to a live performance. I have never experienced anything better than this in headphone listening. From Victor After visiting Albert’s shop listening to his hand built set up , especially his super rectifier system, I have finally decided to purchase 2 of the supreme model STR-1003. These STR-1003 came with stock 805a and 300b power tubes. I have been running these stock tubes in the STR-1003 on my twin mono full balance 300b preamplifier every weekend and finally have install some 872A/866A/3B28 mercury and xenon vapour rectifier tubes, all I have to say these STR-1003 dynamically boost my system to an unbelievable level. The sound is so 3D wide, treble is crystal clear without sharp annoying frequency, mid range is sweet and smooth, low frequency is deep, clear and low distortion. Alberts designed this STR-1003 with great flexibility, each tubes can operate individually , can use different voltage for different tubes and can run this in half wave or full wave rectification. The only thing I would suggest Albert to improve on this STR-1003 is to have installed indicators led on all of the switch as it’s hard to see which one is on or off in a dark room . Overall I am very pleased of this designed where im sure no one in this world have. ....In some aspects adding the STR-1002 to the Lampi TRP was a larger step up than going from the MAY KTE to the TRP. The upgrade to the TRP was a very significant one too. |
